Lent Day 9 - Be Wise
Get wisdom; develop good judgement. Proverbs 4:5
Unlike personality or talent, wisdom is not inherent in us. We learn to be wise through reading, understanding and, even more importantly, applying God’s word.
This is far more valuable than any academic achievement. Sometimes we are tempted to follow our worldly desires without asking God to show us the right road to take.
That invariably leads us into a trap, which holds us until we recognize it and are willing to repent and begin again. How wonderful that we have a God who understands our weaknesses and who is willing to forgive and let us make a fresh start.
As parents, our purpose is to impart wisdom to our children to help them make wise decisions.
When they ignore us and make a mess of things, we try not to say, ‘I told you so!’ Instead, we go on patiently loving them, guiding them and helping them to learn from their mistakes.
God’s commandments on how to live our lives wisely are as vital to us today as they ever were. They guide us in the right ways, and if we pray and reflect on the choices we make, we can learn to grow in his wisdom.
