Bible stories for early readers linked to the key stage 1 National Curriculum guidelines.

This is one of six Ready to Read Bible Readers (series of sticker books also available). All of the Ready to Read titles help children to discover much-loved Bible stories and are also designed to develop the reading confidence of children aged 5-7. Educational features of this series include:



-Uses 'serif' fonts especially designed to assist a child's reading.


-The National curriculum for key stage 1 reading writing and speaking is used to guide the texts in the following way:

A. The 100 'key' words are used when appropriate as frequently as possible

B.Rhyme, alliteration and other sound patterns are used where appropriate

C. Speech and actions are used to convey emotions


-Each book includes an activity at the end of the story designed to encourage the child to talk about what they did and didn't like about the story as well as helping them to remember the key events and sequence of events. This will also help Children describe the characters, recall the 100 key words and respond creatively (sticker books) to what they have read.


- Each Reader book has a key object or character which appears on every page encouraging the child to develop their observational skills


-The stories are told in rhyme or with strong rhythmical prose. The text is engaging, humorous and accompanied by strong illustrations. Some phrases are repeated with minor variations to encourage confidence in reading. The text for different characters is picked out in a different colour to allow recognition and reading of different parts. The background colour on which the text sits is used deliberately to enhance the reading experience for dyslexic children.


- Ready To Tell section highlights the story in picture form with small details from the illustrations allowing the child to re-tell the story in their own words


- Ready to Read section contains pictures of characters and objects from the story with a separate list of words to one side. Children have to join the words to the correct picture or vice versa.


- Ready to Do section contains an activity based on the book
