In the UK we are eagerly anticipating your new
album Expect the Impossible – we're told we should 'expect the
unexpected' from it. How has Stellar Kart evolved since the last
album?
Is your hope that your fans will grow with the band?
We were very deliberate
with the lyrical content of this new record. From start to finish,
it is an album that provides positive solutions for life's
problems. Musically, it is more pop/rock and less
punk, but still fun and energetic. I believe the songs are
more complete than our previous records and the lyrics and music
should appeal to a wider audience.
Tell us about the
song-writing process. You have a great sound, you have a strong
message behind your music AND your lyrics really draw the listener
in. This is no mean feat – how do
you achieve it?
I usually start
with an idea, a song title. Then I come up with some thoughts that
support that idea, form them into a verse or chorus and play around
with melodies and chords.
Sometimes it takes 30 minutes to write a song, sometimes it takes
three weeks. I try to create a singable melody with catchy guitar
riffs to make the song something people will want to listen to and
sing along.
Your songs are such
that they must touch a lot of people and speak into their lives.
Have you any stories to share about how your music has affected
others?
We have parents, kids,
youth pastors, grandparents, just about everyone you could imagine
come up to us at our shows and tell us how our songs have impacted
their lives. We've had parents who lost children say that our song
helps them cope with their loss. We had a student tell us that her
mom had cancer and our song helped get her through all the
treatment. It's overwhelming that our music could have such an
impact in people's lives.

What Christian bands /
artists out there have impressed you recently and
why?
We recently were able to tour with the
Newsboys. They were unbelievable. Every night their show was
amazing and every night Peter would inspire the crowd when he was
talking to them.
It made us realize that there was more to touring than just rocking
out on stage. They inspired us to put on the greatest show every
night and still bring the message of hope and
love.
What's the central
message you would like people to take from Stellar Kart's
music?
The main thing we want
people to know is that they don't have to go through this life
alone.
You don't have to be by yourself in the hard times, you don't have
to celebrate by yourself when life is great. Ultimately, Jesus
loves you and He will get you through this life and show you a love
beyond your wildest dreams.
What are you currently
up to?
We are about to
release our third record, Expect the Impossible. I can't
wait to see the reactions of people when they hear it for the first
time. We will be heading out on the road to promote the new record
in about a week.
In
concert what song(s) get the biggest reaction?
Our new song,
The Right One is one of those jumping songs where the
entire crowd is going crazy. Life is Good is still a crowd
favourite from our first record.
What are your hopes
for the band's future?
I hope we can be
around for many years making music that helps people. Hopefully,
we'll continue to grow and our success will continue to grow as
well. I would like to make music as long as people enjoy
it.
